The Proximity Care mobile unit returns to the municipalities of Garfagnana and Media Valle for cancer screening of the population. Dates and municipalities involved
From 19 May, the travelling multiscreening campaign will resume with the Proxy Screening Camper, which will once again travel around the municipalities of the Media Valle and Garfagnana areas. It will start in Pieve Fosciana and then cover all the municipalities of the Serchio Valley by autumn
The travelling screening programme promoted by Proxy Screening, the initiative launched by Proximity Care to ensure cancer prevention ‘close to home’, is back for its third year. The locations have been identified in agreement with the mayors to ensure proximity and accessibility for all interested parties: from this year, the camper van will be present in all the municipalities of the Serchio Valley, with a team of healthcare professionals from the Azienda USL Toscana nord ovest (North-West Tuscany Local Health Authority), including radiologists, midwives and nurses.
The first municipality involved is Pieve Fosciana, where the camper will be stationed from 19 to 23 May, before moving on to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana from 27 May to 9 June.
The next stops are:
- Castiglione di Garfagnana, 11-13 June;
- Molazzana, 17-18 June;
- Gallicano, 19-24 June;
- Fabbriche di Vergemoli, 25 June.
From the end of June to mid-July, stops are planned in Camporgiano, Careggine, Vagli di Sotto, Minucciano, Villa Collemandina, Fosciandora, San Romano in Garfagnana and Piazza al Serchio.
In autumn, the mobile unit will then visit Sillano Giuncugnano, Barga, Borgo a Mozzano, Coreglia Antelminelli, and Bagni di Lucca. The final schedule will be available in the coming weeks.
Invitation letters are being sent to citizens who are covered by regional prevention protocols and who reside in the municipalities of the Serchio Valley. The invitation will indicate the tests to be performed, the address and the date of the appointment.
Please note that, in addition to the screening tests provided for in the regional protocol (mammogram, Pap test - HPV, stool test), during the examination it will be possible, on an experimental basis, to undergo dermatoscopy of any skin spots or lesions that are considered necessary to evaluate.
To date, the mobile unit has carried out over 2,000 screenings, with a significant increase in the population's participation in this important preventive measure.
