The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies took part in “Meet THE Innovation – Tuscany, Culture of Health”, the final event of the three-year journey of the Tuscany Health Ecosystem (THE) held at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence on October 28 and 29.

Supported by the Regione Toscana, the initiative brought together the entire regional research network in the field of Life Sciences – universities, higher education institutions, research centers, companies, and public bodies – to share the results achieved and outline the perspectives of an integrated innovation model serving both health and sustainable development.

The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies is among the founding partners of the ecosystem and plays a strategic role in promoting a culture of public health and social innovation, through the coordination of Spoke 10, led by Nicola Bellé, Professor at the Institute of Management The Spoke focuses on the integration of health and social services, the enhancement of telemedicine, and the engagement of local communities in care pathways, with particular attention to vulnerable contexts and to people with migratory or traumatic experiences. Ongoing activities aim to develop new models of community-based healthcare, closer to citizens and capable of combining equity, proximity, and innovation.

During the event, Sabina Nuti Full Professor of Business and Management at the Health Science Center and former Rector of the School, delivered a talk on the evaluation of performance in regional healthcare systems. Her speech highlighted how measurement and data analysis are essential tools for guiding public policies, improving service quality, and making healthcare more sustainable and person-centered.

The participation of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in “Meet THE Innovation” reaffirmed the importance of a multidisciplinary vision that combines applied research, education, and technology transfer, integrating biomedical, engineering, economic, and social expertise. Within this framework, the Spoke coordinated by Sant’Anna stands out for its ability to connect scientific and social innovation, promoting solutions that address the real needs of people and communities.

Today, the Tuscany Health Ecosystem represents a strong network of 22 partners, including all Tuscan universities and higher education institutions, major national research centers (CNR, IIT, INFN), regional institutions, and Confindustria Toscana. With over 400 new researchers and PhD students recruited and more than 1,000 researchers already active, the ecosystem serves as a growth engine for applied research and for the scientific and industrial competitiveness of the region.

Through its contribution, the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies strengthens its role in building a regional healthcare system capable of innovating, measuring, and improving its performance—always placing the individual and the public value of knowledge at the center. “Meet THE Innovation” marked an opportunity for reflection and revitalization of a project that looks to the future of Tuscan healthcare with a vision of steady collaboration, sustainability, and real impact on people’s lives.
