The Sant'Anna School spin-off company Soundsafe Care won the CNA Change Prize organised by CNA Artigiani Imprenditori d'Italia, with the participation of Unioncamere. The Sant'Anna School startup has developed a medical device that uses ultrasound and robotics for the non-invasive treatment of cancer, with clear benefits for patients and physicians.
The Cambiamenti prize is an initiative realised with the support of institutions and important partners, who have decided to bet on new Italian companies, trying to turn their sights firmly on the country's future. Business ideas that can represent real innovation and have the potential to introduce change in their sector of activity and in the area where they operate were submitted for the award. The 2024 edition saw 1007 companies apply, with 10 qualifying events for the national final. Soundsafe Care won the provincial final in Pisa, the ‘Top Innovation Company’ award at the regional stage and finally the national first prize.
Soundsafe Care's device finds its main application in oncology, providing a tool for tumour ablation in both human and veterinary medicine. The technology consists of a therapy module mounted on the robot and capable of generating an ultrasound beam, with the aim of generating a highly localised therapeutic effect: tissue, such as a tumour mass, can be destroyed in a volume the size of a grain of rice. Thanks to the focusing of these high-intensity waves, therefore, it is possible to intervene without requiring any incisions and, at the same time, being mechanical waves, no toxicity develops.
