Not everywhere is listening to patients discharged from hospitals after an ordinary hospitalization to collect their impressions. The Regione Toscana has been listening to patients and their "voices" since 2018, in collaboration with the MeS Management and Healthcare Laboratory of the Institute of Management of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. The experience, the first in Italy and among the first in Europe, has been taken as a model by other Italian regions and even by other states: by Latvia, Veneto, the Terni hospital company from May 2023 and soon also by the Aou Sant'Andrea in Rome and the Asl of Bologna hospitals in Emilia Romagna. Two countries, three regions, eighty public institutions nationwide monitored, and ten among accredited private facilities in Tuscany. Since 2021, Italy has also joined an international patient experience evaluation project involving territorial health care (Veneto, Tuscany, Asl of Bologna and Puglia with only the Asl of Taranto are the Regions involved at the moment) and the model chosen was again the Tuscan one developed by the MeS Management and Health Laboratory of the Institute of Management of the Sant'Anna School.

Healthcare organization is about numbers: very often patient data is analyzed. In this case, the perspective changes and we try to see public health care and the services rendered in hospitals through the "eyes" of patients. This is the goal of the permanent observatory Prems, whose annual report was presented in the St. Apolonnia auditorium in Florence on Friday, June 9, with guests and speakers, including international ones.

Nearly 36 thousand questionnaires were collected in 2022 in Tuscany and made available in real time to professionals through a customized web platform. Asl Nord Ovest publishes the results online on its website, in a transparent way: it was the first to do so. Toscana Sud Est does it internally among professionals, on its intranet.
