INSTITUTE OF LIFE SCIENCES OPENS CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FROM RESEARCHERS WORKING ON WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENTS WITH LINKS TO AGRICULTURE, CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD SECURITY

The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, in view of the possible opening of one tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor [‘Ricercatore di tipo B’ (RTDB) in the Italian system], seeks expressions of interest from researchers working on water resource managements with links to agriculture, climate change and food security.

PROFILE

The ideal candidate should have a solid background in hydrological research in the context of management of water resources, in particular for agricultural applications; and in one or more of the following topics: physical aspects of the land surface, including modelling of land-surface processes; sustainable agriculture, climate change mitigation and adaptation; water-soil-food-nexus challenge.

The candidate should develop research activities in one, or more, of the following areas: agricultural water management, agrometeorology and climatology, land-surface and surface/ground water modelling, and water sciences and technologies. The overall objective of his/her research will be to identify and develop innovative solutions for water supply, and improvement of water quality in agriculture.

The ideal candidate will also develop and apply new interdisciplinary tools to understand and manage the complex interactions of the water-soil-plant-food nexus challenges, aiming for a reduction of surface-/ground-water pollution and carbon footprint, thus helping to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

We encourage application from candidates with:

  • a PhD degree;
  • an excellent scientific publication track record;
  • experience in acquiring and managing research funds from international/EU/national funding agencies;
  • experience in teaching academic courses, and in tutoring MSc and PhD students;
  • a multidisciplinary research track record;
  • proven record of inter-personal skills and capability to build connections with relevant academic partners and stakeholders;
  • excellent communication and social skills.

Applicants' track record should indicate the potential to achieve an excellent international reputation in this research area, as reflected by the quality of publications, the impact in the scientific community and the capacity to obtain external research funding from international/EU/national funding agencies and industry. She or he should also be committed to provide excellent teaching at all levels and to communicate the relevance and impact of her/his research to stakeholders.

She or he will join the internationally recognized faculty of Sant’Anna School, and will help the School to build an inter-disciplinary centre of excellence focussed on climate change and its impacts.
