Bio
Diego Bianchi is a PhD Candidate at the Brain-Inspired Robotics (BRAIR) Laboratory of The BioRobotics Institute, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. He was a visiting PhD researcher at the Soft Transducers Lab, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) (September 2025 – December 2025), and at the Morphable Biorobotics Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Boston University (October 2023 – January 2024).
He received his MSc in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics track) with honors in October 2021, and his BSc in Industrial Engineering (Mechanical track) with honors in October 2019. Before starting his PhD, he worked as a Research Assistant at the BRAIR Lab.
Research
His research focuses on achieving fast and complex dynamics in soft robots, either by developing intrinsically rapid designs or by enabling them to perform advanced dynamic tasks. His work combines advanced control algorithms, robotic prototyping, and user-centered design.
He contributed to the European H2020-Founded project Proboscis and to the Italian project Share-CP.
