Institutional appointments: Gastone Ciuti, professor of Bioengineering, is the new Director of the BioRobotics Institute at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies

Gastone Ciuti is the new Director of the BioRobotics Institute at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa. He succeeds Professor Cesare Stefanini and will remain in office for the three-year period 2025-2028. Gastone Ciuti has received best wishes and congratulations from the entire community of the School and from Rector Nicola Vitiello.

"It is an honour to serve and lead the BioRobotics Institute for the next three years. My goal is to contribute to its growth and consolidation in its academic missions,’ says Gastone Ciuti . ‘The BioRobotics Institute now has over 350 people, including professors, researchers, research and technical-administrative staff, and doctoral students, and is an international benchmark, always driven by the founding ideals of scientific excellence, advanced training, and innovation with a high social impact"

Gastone Ciuti is a full professor of Bioengineering. He is the scientific director of the Healthcare Mechatronics Laboratory, where he develops robotic systems for surgery and advanced medical applications. His research activities focus on the study, design, implementation and clinical validation of integrated platforms and intelligent systems in the medical field, with the aim of promoting effective, reliable and minimally invasive diagnosis and therapy.

"During my term of office, I intend to work on consolidating the international scientific reputation of the BioRobotics Institute, initiating an in-depth reflection on the upcoming challenges and new areas of research in which to systematise and make the most of the multidisciplinary skills and professionalism of our community. I am also committed to promoting relations with local institutions and strengthening the competitiveness, level of innovation and impact of our research for the benefit of society, through increasingly strategic and structured collaborations with the productive world, in synergy and in full respect of the relevant institutional missions," concludes Ciuti.
