Italy and China sign bilateral agreement to consolidate partnership with Beijing Police Academy: 30 professors of international law first meet in Pisa on July 4

On July 4 and 5, in Pisa, Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and China Beijing Police Academy are scheduled to hold a first meeting to sign a bilateral agreement enhancing cooperation in the field of Chinese police officers training. The agreement will be signed on the occasion of the first meeting between Italian and Chinese Professors of International Law who will focus on joint research projects and organization of workshops and conferences.

Professor Perata, rector of Sant’Anna School, and General Li Lemin, president of Chinese Police academy, will sign the bilateral agreement which provides for faculty and students exchange, planning and coordination of training activities, organizing joint research projects and conferences. The agreement will formalize the cooperation carried out with the Chinese academy over the past three years. In this period, professors of Sant’Anna School have provided training in China while Chinese Academy's staff has visited Sant’Anna School, in several occasion, for relatively long periods of time conducting research and acquiring new specializations.

The Beijing Police Academy provides advanced and specialized training for police officers, firefighters, customs officers, peacekeepers, and hundreds of training courses are organized each year for thousands of Chinese law enforcement officers.

Professor Andrea de Guttry, director of Sant’Anna Dirpolis (Law, Politics and Development) Institute and project coordinator, announces the signature of the agreement and explains that “the agreement officially marks a multi-year cooperation between the two institutions, and once again Sant'Anna School boasts strong reputation also in China and confirms its ability to offer advice and high quality accredited training. The agreement which will be formalized today, July 4, represents a prestigious award for the goals achieved in recent years, and is an extraordinary opportunity for Italian institutions to offer their own experience, in a sensitive matter such as the training of police officers, on issues of international cooperation and common interest”.

The bilateral agreement signing ceremony is organized with the support of Confucius Institute of Sant'Anna School and in collaboration with the China University of Political Science and Law. More than 30 professors and experts of Chinese and Italian international law will address issues related to cybersecurity, current environmental risks and emergencies, the "disputes" concerning the sovereignty of islands, the Law of the Sea and the protection of the marine environment. The main objective is to identify respective roles and responsibilities to develop a common international approach to the global challenges.
