The conference ‘Innovation and change for tomorrow's healthcare. 20 years of research and training of the MeS Laboratory: reflections on the future of healthcare systems’, on Thursday 5 December at the PalaTodisco in San Giuliano Terme (Pisa), celebrated 20 years of activity of the MeS Management and Healthcare Laboratory of the Sant'Anna School, with the participation of over 400 people including experts, healthcare professionals, professors and representatives of institutions.

Together with the researchers of the MeS Laboratory, those who attended the conference had the opportunity to take stock of the first 20 years and reflect on the challenges of future healthcare through speeches, round tables and debates. At the centre of the round tables were the importance of human resources, the protagonism of users and patients, the performance of integrated pathways and personalised care, governance mechanisms and sustainability. The conference was introduced by the greetings of the Tuscany Region's councillor for the right to health and healthcare, Simone Bezzini, and ended with the remarks of Domenico Mantoan, director general of AGENAS

‘The performance evaluation system of the MeS Management and Healthcare Laboratory has been recognised as an example of excellence in the transfer of knowledge and is a good example of fruitful collaboration between universities and public administration for the benefit of the community,’ emphasised Sabina Nuti, rector of the Sant'Anna School and founder of the MeS Management and Healthcare Laboratory.

‘In the coming years, we count on studying and proposing tools to support the transformation of healthcare systems in order to make them more equitable and sustainable, also through the use of digital tools,’ added Milena Vainieri, scientific head of the MeS Management and Healthcare Laboratory.

An event of great scope and relevance, such as the one held on Thursday 5 December at the PalaTodisco, would not have been possible without the collaboration of so many people: the research team of the MeS Management and Healthcare Laboratory takes this opportunity to express its thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the conference, first and foremost the speakers, who - with competence and passion - gave life to a debate of great depth and broad perspectives.
