Bio

Dr. Gioia Lucarini (female) is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The BioRobotics Institute of SSSA, in the Surgical Robotics and Allied Technologies group. During the last six months of her PhD course, Gioia Lucarini has been Research Fellow at the Pediatric Cardiac Bioengineering Lab of Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA) under the supervision of Prof. Pierre Dupont.

Her current research interests include robot-assisted platforms based on electromagnetic approaches for navigation, localization and tracking of smart devices for focused and targeted minimally invasive surgery, diagnosis and therapy (e.g. for advanced capsule endoscopy, cardiovascular surgery and targeted drug delivery).

She is author of 12 journal papers and she also published more than 24 international peer reviewed conference papers. She actively participated in different EU and national research projects (VECTOR, SUPCAM, MICROVAST – this one funded by a Bank Fundation in Italy), in which she provided key technical and scientific contributions. She collaborated in writing different international and national project proposals and she was tutor and technical mentor of different Master Degree theses in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pisa. The research efforts of Gioia Lucarini are oriented towards a combination between solid engineering and robotics competences and a cross-fertilization between different disciplines, with the scope of inventing new robotic solutions at different scales.
