Sant’Anna School researchers from the Institute of Management participated in the Eco-Pro 2018 exhibition at Tokyo Big Sight centre. The exhibition focusing on green services and products to achieve environmentally friendly procurement and to promote renewable energy attracted 185,000 visitors and 750 exhibitors (including Ricoh). Italy plays a leading role in (Green Public Procurement - GPP) where public authorities as policy makers and prominent market stakeholders aim to procure goods, services and works with a reduced environmental impact.  Tiberio Daddi and Fabio Iannone gave their presentation on “Current Status and Trend of Green Public Procurement and Eco-labelling in the world”. Their research highlighted the key trends in the current policy for public products and green services procurement to increase awareness on significant impact of life cycle costslife cycle assessment, award criteria, eco-label, calls, selection, and tenders.

The Japanese Ministry of the Environment and the Japan Environment Association organized the Eco-Pro 2018 exhibition. Over 200 people attended the seminar by Tiberio Daddi and Fabio Iannone. Researchers aimed to provide insights for current areas of concern with a structured review approach examining how key legislations, standards and regulations in Europe and Italy have contributed to increased awareness of green public procurement where all main decisions need to be transparent and replicable.

Daddi and Iannone addressed the topic of how public procurement is used in a strategic way as a driver of the circular economy and of local (Italy) and international (Japan, USA, Vietnam) market for green products. They also presented a qualitative comparative case study, based on the EU funded Interrreg ENHANCE  project in partnership with institutions and academics from Spain, Austria, Czech Republic and Estonia, to improve the implementation of regional policy instruments oriented to increasing the efficiency of resources by the exchange of experiences and practices on supporting EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) registration.
