EPIXFAB 2019: SANT’ANNA school and university of GHENT organized the 4th SUMMER SCHOOL in pisa starting Monday, july 1st. 90 experts from academia and industry discuss innovations in SILICON PHOTONICS

The "ePIXfab Silicon Photonics Summer School" 2019, in its 4th year, is specially designed for beginners and experts from an industrial or academic background in the field of silicon photonics. On July 1st, 2019, in Pisa, industry and academia experts from across the globe have started discussing the emerging silicon photonic IC technology trends. The ePIXfab European alliance of organizations that promotes silicon photonics technology is continuing to emerge as a key hub of development and industry-relevant platform.

Hosted by Giampiero Contestabile, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications of the TeCIP Institute, the "ePIXfab Silicon Photonics Summer School" welcomed 90 participants who will focus on current challenges and future innovations on photonic devices and fabrication technologies. Scheduled as one-week program, the ePIXfab 2019 facilitates personal interaction between experts, including small and medium sized enterprises and research institutes with silicon photonics expertise.

As outlined by David Marpaung, improved optical technologies with low power consumption could help to ensure low-cost access and scalability to manufacturing. Standardization and sustainability of integrated circuits with embedded photonic elements will be driven by a steadily growing user base (communications, healthcare and security sectors), from Europe and elsewhere.
