The impact of austerity measures on health services reducing health coverage and access to care calls for new strategy and policy choices that address population-aging issues. The 24th Annual Conference of the Italian Health Economics Association (AIES), taking place on October 3-4 at Sant’Anna School (9.00 am – room aula magna), will evaluate the impact of economic crises and the significant challenges of health expenditure growth including the needs of an ageing population and the demands of personal care services.

Distinguished panelists and speakers from across Italy will cover a broad range of topics (90 presentations will be delivered in two days of intensive discussion) from capacity building, policy, and decision-making, with a particular focus on sustainable financing programs that aim to improve access to health services and treatments. The conference agenda will include presentations on the role of government in funding health services and the quality of health expenditure through which accountability can be enhanced at country level.

"We are happy to host the AIES conference - said Professor Milena Vainieri of the Institute of Business and Management and Health Data Management, as the conference scientific coordinator. This event offers a valuable opportunity to update on research findings and methodological resources. It provides important information on health service delivery and cost-effectiveness analysis in tracking the implementation of health system strategies”.

“National and international panelists will provide reflections on Italian health system maturity and discuss implications for policy-makers and stakeholders - added Milena Vainieri. Potential challenges and opportunities to define and analyze future health care activities - inpatient, day-care, outpatient and home-based – will be examined to support strategies promoting higher quality health care”.
