TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION, YOUNG UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2021: SANT'ANNA SCHOOL IS SEVENTH IN THE WORLD, THIRD IN EUROPE AND FIRST IN ITALY IN THE RANKING OF YOUNG UNIVERSITIES, 50 YEARS OLD OR YOUNGER, WITH HIGH POTENTIAL FOR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Sant'Anna School is confirmed in the top ten of the world ranking of young universities, released by THE - Times Higher Education, to evaluate the performance of universities that are 50 year old or younger and characterized by a "high potential for growth and development". In the Young University Rankings 2021, presented at the end of an online event, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna - founded in 1987- ranks seventh in the world, third in Europe and first in Italy.
To compile this ranking, THE started evaluated 1527 universities from 93 countries, while 1993 presented the required data without reaching the minimum threshold. THE - Times Higher Education used the same parameters of the general ranking, evaluating training, research (through the number and relevance of publications and number of citations), technology transfer, international openness. One of the parameters taken into consideration refers to reputation, on which academics from all over the world expressed their opinion.
These and other indicators, the analysts underline, have been weighted to reflect the peculiar characteristics of young university institutions, such as their dynamism and propensity for further development. Globally, Asian universities, supported by significant investments, confirm their rise and predominance in the first positions: in third position is The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, PSL Paris Sciences & Lettres is in second place, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore ranks first.
“The competition has become more difficult - says the rector Sabina Nuti - compared to last year, when the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna was ranked fourth, because the number of evaluated universities has increased significantly. Being seventh in the world, third in Europe and first in Italy is an important achievement, and from which we feel a great responsibility and honour towards the whole Italian university system. In 2020 Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna showed great resilience, a word which is now widely used but appropriate for our institution: in 2020, we achieved research projects on national and international calls, on European calls in particular, for a value that is double compared to the previous years. The School is more alive than ever and ready to take on new and demanding challenges ".
