The “Sustainable Communities” Macro Area addresses the dynamics and issues of social, ethical, environmental, and economic sustainability that mainly occur in defined spatial contexts and involve individual, private, and public actors in collective choices characterized by interdependent behaviors. The “sustainable community” emerges from the relationships (local and global flows) between different stakeholders—individuals and groups, communities, the market, and public institutions, nature (understood in the broadest systemic sense)—which take shape and condense in a specific spatial context. This involves a wide variety of problems, which require a multidisciplinary approach to be correctly defined and analyzed.
