How is knowledge changing in the age of algorithms? This and other questions will be addressed at the conference “The Turn of Artificial Intelligence: Philosophy, Politics and Knowledge in the Age of Algorithms”, hosted by the University of Salento  on 14 and 15 November 2025, and held under the patronage of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa.

Organized by the University of Salento, the initiative brings together students, researchers, and scholars from Italian and international universities to critically reflect on the philosophical, political, and epistemological implications of artificial intelligence.

The conference will open on Friday, 14 November, at 3:00 PM in the Rectorate Conference Hall, with institutional greetings from Rector Maria Antonietta Aiello, Department Director Mariano Longo, and CREV Scientific Director Gianpasquale Preite.

The plenary session, chaired by Antonio Tucci, will feature presentations by Barbara Henry (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna) on “Cyberspace and the Myths of Digital Immateriality: Deconstructive Strategies”, Salvo Vaccaro (University of Palermo) on “The Invention of Data”, José Luís Ferraro (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul) on “Reconsidering Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Algorithmic Governmentality and the Transformation of Knowledge”, Francesco Amoretti (University of Salerno) on “Digital Expulsions: The Unfulfilled Promises of Technological Universalism”, and Fabio Ciracì (University of Salento) on “AI as Agent Indeterminacy”.

Thematic Panels

Panel 1, chaired by Antonio Tucci, will address the philosophical, ethical, and hermeneutical dimensions of artificial intelligence, including discussions on gender, personal autonomy, the revolution of intentionality, and technological automation.

Panel 2, coordinated by Salvo Vaccaro, will explore the relationship between technology and politics, analyzing the value of attention, technology as a domain, generative AI, and inclusive algorithmic governance.

Panel 3, chaired by Barbara Henry, will focus on data-mediated knowledge, algorithmic transparency, and new forms of epistemic authority, with contributions on democracy, objectivity, and filter bubbles.

Finally, Panel 4, coordinated by Gianpasquale Preite, will offer an interdisciplinary reflection on vulnerability, resilience, care technologies, and emerging modes of subjectivation, with the participation of Ughetta Vergari and other experts.

An Interdisciplinary Dialogue on the Challenges of AI

The conference will provide an important opportunity for interdisciplinary dialogue on issues central to contemporary society, from the relationship between ethics and technology to transformations of subjectivity and politics in the age of algorithms.

The participation of philosophers, political scientists, legal scholars, and researchers from Italian and international universities will ensure a rich, inclusive, and pluralistic discussion of the cultural, social, and political challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
