Abstract
Migration has long been a contentious political issue in Europe, and beyond. Over the past few years, however, the governance of migration has gone through significant changes, owing to the emergence of new actors, institutions, practices, policies and technologies. Taking stock of the results of the PRIN research project SHUT-MED - Securitizing Human Transit across the Central Mediterranean migratory corridor: shifting mobility governance discourses and practices in Italy, Malta, Libya, and Niger – the conference offers the opportunity to discuss how the governance of migration has been changing in the Mediterranean and beyond. To this end, it brings together senior and junior scholars focusing on migration from a diversity of disciplinary perspectives – including political science, security studies, anthropology, sociology and human rights.
