PRIN 2022 PNRR - LINUS
Lithium Niobate on Insulator for space communications and spectroscopy at 1064nm (LINUS)
The LINUS project targets the setup of a novel thin-film lithium niobate photonic integration platform operating in the 1064 nm
window. This spectral region appears very relevant for both space optical communication and spectroscopy applications.

The LINUS project aims at developing a lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) photonic integration platform operating in the 1064 nm region. Stemming from an in-house developed LNOI platform at 1550 nm, front-end and back-end processes are being adapted, exploiting also collaborations with international fabrication centers. At the same time, a library of photonic building blocks making up a platform design kit is being simulated and designed. Two demonstrators are expected as final targets of the project, i.e., a WDM transmitter (with applications envisioned in space communications) and an electro-optic frequency comb generator (with applications envisioned in spectroscopy analysis).
