Tamara Popic

Tamara Popic is an Assistant Professor for Political Science at the Institute for Law, Politics and Development, at the Sant'Anna School for Advanced Studies. Her research focuses on welfare state policy and politics, with emphasis on healthcare. More specifically, she is interested in topics such as the role of party politics, institutions and ideas in shaping health reforms, public opinion on health systems and, most recently, political discourse on reforms that change public-private mix in the provision of health services. Tamara is a co-director of the ECPR Research Network on Health Policy, Politics and Governance (Health-PPG) and a member of the board of the PhD in Human Rights, Global Politics and International Studies.

Before joining Sant'Anna, Tamara held positions at Queen Mary University of London (2021-2025), European University Institute (2018-2021), and University of Lisbon (2015-2018). Tamara holds a PhD from the European University Institute (2014) and a MA from Humboldt University Berlin (2009). Her work has been published in journals including Journal of European Public Policy, Government & Opposition, Journal of European Social Policy, Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, Social Policy & Administration, and by Oxford University Press and Palgrave MacMillan.
