The Institute of Management is very active in projects related to China. This research line considers the new role of the Chinese economy and entrepreneurial environment toward foreign countries. In particular, researchers analyze how the Chinese market is no longer just a recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) aimed at reducing production costs, but has become a source of innovation for both domestic and foreign companies, and a generator of advanced outbound FDI. To this end, the research group studies various areas such as foreign R&D investments in China and Chinese R&D investments abroad, the outbound flow of Chinese tourists, the place branding of Chinese cities, and technology transfer between universities and industry in China.

Italian Galileo Galilei Institute

The Italian Galileo Galilei Institute (GGII) at Chongqing University was officially inaugurated on December 9, 2007, and is one of the results of the cooperation agreement signed between Chongqing University and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in 2004. The Finmeccanica Group, one of Italy's largest industrial groups, and Intesa Sanpaolo, Italy's largest banking group, have supported the institute in recent years. The institute proudly bears the name of Galileo Galilei, the founding father of modern science, who was active in Pisa and Florence more than four centuries ago.
It is the official center for Italian language exams as a foreign language (CILS) in Chongqing and the first in all of Southwest China. Over 300 students have studied at the institute.

The institute’s team members are also ready to provide information to foreign companies seeking new local opportunities, as well as to Chinese companies wishing to enter the European market. The office develops numerous training projects in collaboration with local partners to promote joint research activities in the academic and industrial sectors. As a bridge between China and Italy, its goal is to foster a deeper understanding between these two ancient and fascinating cultures.

Objectives and missions:

  • Strengthen ties between Sant'Anna, Chongqing University, and the Confucius Institute of Pisa with joint projects and visit opportunities;
  • Promote Italian culture and language in Chongqing;
  • Provide logistical support and advice to Italian academic and business delegations;
  • Promote the visibility of GG/Sant'Anna/Confucius Institute within the academic, institutional, and private sectors of Chongqing.
