Social and environmental sustainability
Our societies are threatened by profound demographic and environmental changes – from aging to migrations, from rising temperatures to drastic changes in the availability of natural resources, which often result in growing social polarization. In such a setting, policies cable of effectively addressing inequalities, the management of our welfare system and climate change will have a central role in guaranteeing peoples’ wellbeing. We pursue research on both welfare, in particular the healthcare system, and environmental sustainability. We study human resource management, governance models and performance evaluation in health care – with Italian data at increasingly high resolution, and moving towards international comparisons. On the sustainability front, we investigate the effects of different technological and organizational configurations on environmental footprints, economic performance, and life expectancy and quality. In particular, our research assesses public policy and business model choices that may mitigate environmental impacts.
