The Sant'Anna School Seeks Leading Figure in Data Science: Full Professor Position Open
The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, a renowned institution for interdisciplinary education and research in Pisa, Italy, seeks a Full Professor in Informatics (INF/01 B1 Informatica) to join its prestigious Department of Excellence, L'EMbeDS (Economics, Management and Law in the Era of Data Science).
The position, announced according to the regulations established for mobility notices (Art. 7, Par. 5-bis and 5-ter, Law n. 240 of December 30, 2010), offers an exceptional opportunity for an established leader in Data Science to contribute to shaping the future of data- and computation-driven research in the Social Sciences -- within the L'EMbeDS community, the Sant'Anna School, and the scientific community at large.
Admission requirements:
Candidates must have had at least five years of service in one of the following position:
- Full Professor in other Italian Universities
- Full Professor, or equivalent position, in foreign Universities (see Tables of Correspondence established by the Ministerial Decree n.456 of May 10, 2023)
- Research Manager or Senior Researcher at a public research institution, or Researcher with a permanent position or a fixed-term contract (Art. 1, Par. 422 and subsequent paragraphs, Law n.205 of December 27, 2017) at a scientific institute for research, hospitalization and healthcare (IRCCS) working in translational, preclinical and clinical research, in possession of the National Scientific Qualification for the Academic Recruitment Field 01/B1 Informatica.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver cutting-edge courses: expand and diversify the educational mission of L'EMbeDS, fostering groundbreaking initiatives like the new II level diploma in Data Science of the School, and our role in internal and national doctoral programs.
- Lead and mentor research: spearhead research efforts addressing critical algorithmic, methodological, and societal challenges arising from the use of massive contemporary data; provide insightful research guidance to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral researchers.
- Foster collaborations and leadership: actively engage in interdisciplinary collaborations within L'EMbeDS and cultivate national and international research networks.
- Secure sustained funding: maintain a robust research program with external funding, further strengthening the research profile of the Department of Excellence and the Sant'Anna School.

- Distinguished research record: demonstrated excellence in computer science research, with publications in leading journals and conferences.
- Proven teaching experience: a strong commitment to teaching and supervising students at various levels, fostering a stimulating and supportive learning environment.
- Visionary leadership: a proven ability to lead research initiatives, inspire and collaborate with diverse teams, and drive impactful research outcomes.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration: a strong interest and experience in interdisciplinary research, particularly in joint work with social scientists.
- Fluency in English: Ability to use English effectively for teaching, research, and interactions with scientific collaborators and institutional interlocutors.
