Emanuele Sommario, Master Director
Emanuele Sommario is presently Associate Professor (Professore Associato) of International Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa (Italy). He holds a PhD in International Law from the Scuola Sant’Anna and an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Nottingham (UK). Emanuele has been Excellence Fellow at the International Law Department of the University of Geneva, Visiting Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, and Visiting Fellow at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. His main interests lay in Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law, International Criminal Law, the law on international responsibility, and International Disaster Law, and he is the author of several scholarly works on the above topics, which he teaches at under-, graduate, and postgraduate level. Since 2013 he is unit coordinator of the International Disaster Law Project, financed by the Italian Ministry for University and Research. As from 2000, he is Programme Officer at the International Training Programme for Conflict Management of the Scuola Sant’Anna. He served in several Electoral Observation Missions and was involved in training activities for the personnel of international, governmental and non-governmental organisations in Europe, the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans. His latest publications include a monograph on situations of public emergency and human rights (Stati d’emergenza e trattati a tutela dei diritti umani, Giappichelli, 2018) and an edited volume on human rights protection in disaster settings (Routledge Handbook of Human Rights and Disasters, Routledge, 2018). He speaks Italian, German and English.
Blerina Duli, Master Didactic and Internship Coordinator
Blerina Duli is currently a research fellow in International and European Union Law at DIRPOLIS Institute, and Didactic and Internship Coordinator of the Master in Human Rights and Conflict Management. She holds a Ph.D. in “Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution” from the University of Siena, and a MA degree from the European Regional Master in ‘Human Rights and Democracy in South East Europe’, University of Bologna. After her PhD, she has gained more than 10 years of experience in European Master programmes in the field of Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, as part of the scientific board and academic coordinator, at the University of Siena and Kingston University (UK). She has recently concluded a research experience with the Department of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Bicocca, Milan. Her academic career is intertwined with the project management in different NGOs, developing and managing various projects on international affairs, peacebuilding, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, capacity building, in collaboration with international and national institutions on diplomatic, academic, and institutional level, directed to the leaders of different conflict and post conflict countries. Her academic background has been enriched by various experiences as a guest lecturer in Italian and international Master degrees, focusing on topics such as: human rights, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, mediation and facilitation, social inclusion and migration.
Armando Massanisso, Master Project Officer
Armando Massanisso is currently completing a 1st level Master Diploma, holds a MA degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs at the University of Bologna, and a BA degree in Political Sciences at the University of Roma Tre. In 2020 he has been an intern at the Secretary Office of the Italian Consulate in Basel. He has been a volunteer for different Organizations in the field of health, human rights, social and economic development. At the moment, he works for the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna as Project Officer of the Master in Human Rights and Conflict Management.
