WHAT IS THE PROPENSITY OF THE ITALIAN POPULATION TO JOIN THE COVID-19 VACCINATION CAMPAIGN? RESULTS FROM RESEARCH BY AGENAS AND THE MES LABORATORY

The National Agency for Regional Health Services (Agenas) and the Management and Health Laboratory (MeS) of the Institute of Management of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna conducted a large-scale survey (12,322 residents of all the Regions and Autonomous Provinces) photographing the attitudes of the Italian population towards vaccine and vaccination against Covid-19. A report presenting key results was presented in Rome, at the Agenas headquarters, on February 19th 2021.

The report explores three relevant aspects: it characterizes the attitudes of the Italian population towards the vaccine and the vaccination campaign; it identifies the issues on which the Italian population would want to have more information; and it measures the relative value of different factors influencing the propensity towards the vaccine.

"The data we have presented can be very useful - says Sabina Nuti, the Rector of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna - to promote actions at local, regional and national levels to convince the population to get vaccinated. - We still have 17% of people who do not intend to get vaccinated and a further 17% of undecided. Efficient communication, appropriate logistics, efficiency in the delivery process are the keywords for the success of the vaccination campaign".

"In line with similar experiences at an international level, - says Paola Cantarelli, researcher at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna - this work demonstrates how theories from the behavioral sciences and experimental research methods can aid policy makers in implementing complex, multidimensional public policies".
