ADJOINT 2
Sensorised osseointegrated implants for the treatment of hand finger amputations
The ADJOINT2 project is the continuation of the ADJOINT project (from the 2019-2022 research programme) researched and developed a customised device with Additive Manufacturing technology for the treatment of patients with thumb amputations by osseointegration.
The ADJOINT2 project aims to continue research in order to:
- extend the case series of patients treated with an ADJOINT implant at thumb level to reinforce the results obtained regarding the safety and effectiveness of the device;
- develop new patient-matched devices (implant + digital prosthesis) for the treatment of long finger amputations; establish surgical protocols; and address the pathway to certification of implantable biomedical devices;
- conduct a pilot clinical study on the latter, with the aim of extending the pool of patients eligible for treatment with osseointegrated implants;
- study the possibility of sensorialisation of the external prosthesis and the restitution of tactile sensory feedback through advanced sensor systems, also polymer-based, investigating the feasibility of autonomous devices recently proposed for trans-humeral amputations.
